Jeffrey “Jeff” Lance Abood is a Michigan attorney based in Birmingham and a member of the Abood Law Firm, where he focuses his practice on family law, criminal defense, and complex civil matters. Since being admitted to the Michigan bar in 2009, Abood has represented clients across the state in high-stakes divorce proceedings, custody disputes, and criminal cases involving alcohol- and drug-related offenses, driving offenses, and white-collar allegations.
Abood is widely recognized for his work in family law and has handled numerous complex matters involving high-asset divorces, contentious custody disputes, and sensitive family litigation. His litigation experience also includes representation in criminal defense matters and regulatory proceedings, including cases involving the Michigan Liquor Control Commission and the Michigan Lottery Bureau.
Over the course of his career, Abood has earned repeated recognition from peers and professional organizations. He has been selected to Super Lawyers (2024–2025) and was previously named to Super Lawyers Rising Stars from 2012 through 2023, distinctions awarded to attorneys demonstrating excellence in practice and peer recognition. He has also been recognized multiple times by HOUR Detroit Magazine as a Best Divorce Lawyer, reflecting his reputation as one of the region’s leading family law practitioners. Additional honors and professional recognitions have included national rankings and client satisfaction awards from legal organizations focused on criminal defense and family law.
Beyond his legal practice, Abood has maintained an active role in the legal and civic community. He previously served on the Criminal Justice Advisory Board at Wayne State University and has acted as general counsel to several Metro-Detroit nonprofit organizations. He has also contributed articles on divorce and family law topics and has been sought by media outlets to provide commentary on legal issues.
Abood graduated summa cum laude from Wayne State University before earning his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Following a long family tradition in the legal profession, he continues to build a reputation as a skilled litigator and trusted advisor to individuals, families, and professionals facing complex legal challenges throughout Michigan.
